We're on the hunt for snow.

This will be a family friendly trip with the aim of finding some snow for the kids and having a good crack at getting to the top of Mt Skene.

Currently my plan is to camp at the Jamieson Caravan Park, but there are also cabins, Air BNBs, Hotels, etc... Everyone is welcome to do whatever they want given it's likely to be cold.

We will head out EARLY on Saturday morning (7.30 for 8am departure) in order to get a head start on other groups heading up Mt Skene. Depending on our progress we may end up doing some other tracks as well.

I'll try and book the pub for Saturday night for those who are keen, although apparently it books up quick.

Sunday is TBC. We may hit some tracks, but we'll have a roughly 3 hour drive home that day too, unless you turn it into a long weekend.

The difficulty rating is variable. It could be easy, it could be insane. We will need snow chains (can be hired), Alpine Diesel, and lots of warm, waterproof clothing.

There are two main risks:

  1. We might get bogged for hours on the side of a hill in the snow, or waiting to get past other people
  2. Apparently the road can be hard to see in the snow. Care will need to be taken.

Trip will be rated medium, 7 cars max.

Cars and tyres will need to be in good condition.

You will need a shovel.

If the trip is full, still register your interest and we may be able to run two groups.

Everything is dependents on getting a permit.
